Chenonceau

Chenonceau was originally built on the foundations of a mill by Catherine Briconnet between 1513 and 1521. Henry II bought it in 1547 for his mistress Diane de Poitiers. She created the gardens and the bridge over the river Cher. On Henry's death his wife, Catherine de Medici, made the chateau her own and added a 60 metre long Italian style gallery to the bridge.

In 1913 the chateau was bought by the Menier family, chocolatiers, who still own it to this day.

A chateau you have to see!

This is the original we submitted to the World Wide Panorama - but also available here on our site
